Hiking Kauai - Where to hike on the island of Kauai

Here is a list of some interesting hikes on Kauai, Hawaii.
  • Secret Falls - Kayak the Wailua River then hike to Secret Falls - This 5 hour trip starts with a Kayak trip up the Wailua river, through tropical jungle. Several miles up the river you paddle in to shore, secure your Kayak then hike inland through a tropical rainforest to Secret Falls, a 100 foot waterfall that you can swim beneath. Along the trail you will pass other smaller, but even more beautiful falls at hidden places. While you can rent a Kayak and do this trip without a guide, it is probably easier to make this part of a guided hike/trip - that way you don't have to worry about the Kayak when you leave it tied up during the hike. There are several Kayak outfitters, including Paradise Outdoor Adventures, that organize this tour.
  • The Kukui Trail - This trail starts off of the Iliau Loop Trail and drops into Waimea Canyon and there is a large swimming hole at the end of the trail.
  • The Kalalau Trail - This 11 mile trail begins at the end of highway 56 and heads deep into the Kalalua Valley. Hikers usually take around five days to hike in and out on this trail which provides views of the Na Pali Coast and Key Beach. For those wantig a shorter hike, a strenuous day trip is possible 4 miles in to Hanakapiai Falls. This trail, even the short version to Hanakapiai Falls is extremely difficult, and for experienced hikers only.
  • The Kuilau Ridge Trail - This two mile trail (one way) starts from the Keahua Forestry Arboretum and provides a great distant view of Wai'ale'ale covered in rain clouds.
